Our group was formed on 11th June 2003 to help and support people with diabetes, their families, carers, and friends, with the aim of providing support to those coping with all aspects of diabetes.
Our monthly group meetings were suspended from March 2020 due to the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic. None of us knew at the time that the impact of the pandemic on normal life and activities would extend well into 2022.
We are now keen to re-establish the Barking and Dagenham diabetes support group in the aftermath of the pandemic.
We want to support people with established Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and we also want to support people who are at risk of Type 2 diabetes. If you have recently been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and would like to try and reverse the condition through a very low calorie dietary programme, we should like to signpost you towards the service which is now available through the NHS, in Barking and Dagenham.
Central to all the above is a healthy lifestyle, and we are actively working with organisations in Barking and Dagenham who are promoting and helping people towards improved physical and mental wellness.
We desperately need to grow the membership of the group, to gain new ideas and energy as we try to re-establish the group and provide the most appropriate support to the people of Barking and Dagenham whose lives are affected by diabetes in any of its forms.
Please come and visit us at the One Borough Festival, Parsloes Park, Dagenham, on Saturday 23 July, from 11 am onwards (see www.lbbd.gov.uk/oneboroughfest)
We will be in the Health and Wellness Hub
We look forward to seeing you!
